Merewether Uniting Church is centrally located in a beachside suburb of Newcastle. With easy access to public transport and ample parking, our rooms are popular with local dance, drama, singing and community groups.
Hiring A space
Merewether Uniting Church has 2 halls and the church space which are hired for dance, drama, singing, playgroup, AA and occasional groups. There is a commercial kitchen for hire and onsite parking. The halls open onto a lovely park at the rear with an enclosed play area for children.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are all rooms accessible?
The church, main hall and kitchen are accessible with ramp entries. There are 3 steps into the timber hall (Hall 2). There is an accessible toilet accessed through the main hall. Service animals are welcome inside all our venues.
What size are the halls?
The main hall is 15m x 10m with an extended area able to be divided off, 9m x 6m. The floor is polished timber boards. There is gas heating and commercial fans for cooling. The halls and kitchen each have air conditioning operated by coin slots, either $2 or $4 per hour depending on size of the hall. We care about the environment and this ensures air conditioners are only used when needed. There is seating for 90 and 14 folding tables. Tables and seats are stacked at the side of the hall. Hall hirers are responsible for arranging furniture to their needs and packing it away after use. The main hall has an elevated stage 6m x 7.6m
The timber hall (Hall 2) is 12m x 6m with carpeted floor.
Can the kitchen be hired separately?
Yes. The commercial kitchen can be hired with the use of the main hall or separately for food preparation for small businesses or private functions.
Is there parking at the venue?
Yes. Merewether Uniting Church has a car park accessed from Glebe Rd. There is also street parking in Railway St, National Park St and Cram St. There is a pedestrian walkway beside 19 Cram St through to the church property. There is a bus stop at 180 Glebe Rd and directly opposite.
Can I come in early to set up?
Set up and pack up time need to be included with the booking as there may be other groups booked in before/after you.
How do I pay?
Banking details are included on the hall hire agreement for direct deposit payments.
Do I need insurance?
Yes, all groups hiring this venue must provide a copy of their public liability insurance.
Can we store equipment on site?
Storage is extremely limited. Most hall users have no storage facility here for equipment.
