This program began with new arrivals to Australia forming friendships with Australians. The vision is to support individuals and the local community with the development of friendships between people of different nationalities and life circumstances. Integrating people and making new connections through supportive friendships offers a way of living that can build resilience, well-being, enjoyment and enhance the sense of value and connection of all involved.
This is a program that can quickly make a difference in people’s lives through friendship, connection and support.
Volunteers are invited to act on their values and passion for creating one inclusive community by offering friendship and regular contact to a new arrival to Australia who is seeking a social friendship.
The aim of the program is connecting people who will share encouraging friendships that will support learning about living in Australia. These friendships have the capacity to add value to the lives of all participants, increase the well-being and enjoyment of life of all involved, and have a positive impact on the community.
Benefits of participating in the program may include gaining insights into other cultures, increasing self-confidence, enjoyment and sense of connection to the community and decreasing stress, loneliness and social isolation.
Volunteers will be required to sign a volunteer agreement and have a current working with children check.
If you are interested in volunteering or joining the program, contact Rev Jennifer Burns.
