Building bridges to a better community
Merewether Uniting Church is an inner-city faith community in Newcastle NSW, valuing the insights of Progressive Christianity, creating inclusive communities of justice, welcome and belonging.
We gather each Sunday at 9am, sharing stories, songs, contemporary and Biblical readings with discussion and creative activities. This is a time of encouragement, exploration, connecting our identity as followers of Jesus with the realities of everyday life. Children are always welcome and included. More about our Sunday Service.
We are a compassionate community, diverse in our theology, views and opinions, welcoming people of all ages, racial backgrounds, married, divorced, single and diverse gender identities.
We offer a spiritual home for whoever may join us, wherever you are on your spiritual journey. We welcome people visiting once, semi regularly and people looking for community.
We encourage discussion of 21st Century questions about life and meaning, respecting and recognising we are all in different places on the journey of life.
We are followers of the way of life Jesus taught and lived. Our values include community, service, participation of all people, welcoming diversity, and a commitment to social justice and peace.
Weddings, baptisms and funerals can be planned by contacting our minister Rev. Jennifer Burns.
Our vision, as followers of the Way of Jesus, is to live and work towards creating one just world for all people. We understand this to be living towards God’s dream for all people and all creation.
Please watch this video and listen for ideas on how we might each live towards a more equitable world for all.
